Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation: A Path to Wellness for Healthcare Professionals
Description In Medscape’s Physician Burnout & Depression Report 2022, almost 50% of physicians in a range of specialties reported feelings of burnout. The major increase was seen in emergency physicians who just last year reported 43% were burned out and now that number has risen to an alarming 60%! Physicians feel a lot of pressure to continue pushing forward to treat their patients and ignore their own needs. In addition, they are concerned about the ramifications to their career if mental health issues are disclosed and fear the stigma about mental health in society. As a healthcare industry we need to recognize the mental health toll faced by physicians, provide support and foster a culture of acceptance so that they don’t have to be super heroes to the detriment of their own health.

Recognize physician burnout impacting our healthcare workforce and identify the resources and interventions available to support a physician’s mental wellness.
Describe structural barriers that inhibit physicians from seeking and obtaining mental health care.
