Description:Substance use disorders are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, with prevalence rates comparable to conditions like diabetes, asthma, and hypertension. While tobacco and alcohol remain the most commonly abused substances, the rising prevalence of illicit drug use—particularly opioids—has garnered significant public and governmental focus. This course will help physicians enhance their ability to identify patients at risk for substance use disorders, recognize fraudulent practices, and implement strategies to reduce inappropriate prescribing and initiate effective treatment.
CME Objectives:After completing this activity, learners will be able to:- Describe the pharmacology of benzodiazepines and psychostimulants which result in them being classified as controlled drugs, and the implications of this pharmacology for prescribing decisions.
