Description The panel discusses common problems seen by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners in prescribing controlled substances. From the need to have a signed patient agreement to the nuances of prescribing multiple controlled substances and their interactions, the panel present multiple problems seen frequently in opioid prescribing. Examples of misuse and abuse are detailed as well as aids to help the prescriber trying to use controlled substances appropriately. Target Audience This activity is designed for Physicians, Physician Assistants and Advanced Nurse Practitioners who are certified to prescribe controlled substances.
CME Objective After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
Recognize common problems in prescribing controlled substances and discuss various aides a physician can implement to prevent misuse and abuse.
