Description:
Private equity firms have increasingly acquired physician practices in recent years, driven by the desire to profit from the growing healthcare sector. This shift is reshaping the healthcare landscape by raising concerns about the potential impacts on healthcare quality, cost, and provider autonomy. While physicians benefit from access to capital, administrative support, and streamlined operations, this transition brings challenges that need to be addressed.  To thrive in this complex and evolving healthcare environment, physicians need the right resources, tools, and strategies. This includes comprehensive knowledge of private equity impacts, leadership development, financial literacy, and collaborative frameworks that protect clinical autonomy while promoting practice sustainability.

CME Objectives:
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
  • Explain what private equity is and its growing role in the physician industry
  • Discuss common deal structures and terms, including purchase price, rollover equity, earn-outs and non-compete covenants
  • Discuss potential risks and benefits associated with a physician practice selling to private equity
  • Offer advice for physicians considering a private equity sale
