Description:The rapid expansion of podcasting and social media has transformed how medical information is created, disseminated, and consumed. Physicians increasingly encounter clinical updates, educational content, and professional discourse through digital platforms; however, many have not received formal training in evaluating, creating, or responsibly engaging with these media. This gap leaves physicians unprepared to leverage digital platforms for education and professional development, and navigate ethical, legal, and professionalism considerations in public-facing spaces.
As a result, opportunities to enhance learning, patient education, and professional collaboration may be underutilized, while risks, including misinformation spread, breaches of professionalism, and reputational harm remain insufficiently addressed. Education is needed to equip physicians with practical strategies and best practices to effectively and responsibly integrate podcast and social media into medical education and clinical practice.
CME Objectives:At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the role of podcasting and social media in contemporary medical education and clinical practice, including potential benefits and challenges
- Identify and apply practical strategies and best practices for using digital media responsibly and effectively as physicians.
