Description:The expansion of telemedicine during and after the COVID-19 pandemic has permanently transformed healthcare delivery. While many physicians have adopted virtual visits, studies continue to show gaps in effective communication, diagnostic accuracy, workflow efficiency, and patient engagement in the telehealth environment. In addition, evolving regulatory,
reimbursement, and privacy requirements create challenges for busy clinicians seeking to integrate telemedicine into everyday practice without compromising quality of care.
Surveys from the American Medical Association and Agency indicate that although over 70% of physicians now offer telehealth services, more than half report uncertainty about best practices for virtual physical exams, documentation, and follow-up coordination
. Furthermore, many clinicians struggle with time management, technology selection, and ensuring equity of access
for patients
with limited digital literacy or resources.
CME Objectives:At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe current best practices and regulatory standards for delivering safe and compliant telemedicine services.
- Apply effective communication and clinical assessment techniques to optimize virtual patient encounters.
- Implement strategies to improve workflow efficiency and reduce administrative burden in telehealth practice.
- Evaluate methods to ensure equitable access and patient engagement in virtual care settings.
- Integrate technology solutions and documentation practices that support continuity of care and reimbursement requirements.
