This on-demand activity can contribute to the 2 credits of continuing education every two years required of Alabama Controlled Substances Certificate holders.Description Substance use disorders are a common cause of morbidity and mortality. These disorders are as prevalent as diabetes, asthma, cholesterol disorders, and hypertension. Although tobacco and alcohol continue to be the most commonly abused drugs and cause the most morbidity and mortality, the growing prevalence of illicit substance use disorders, especially involving opiates, has attracted much public and governmental attention. In this course, physicians will improve skills to identify patients at risk for substance use disorders, and recognize and deal with scams so as to decrease inappropriate prescribing and initiate treatment efforts.
