Mitigating Risk When Prescribing Opioids
Description This course examines the civil and criminal risks associated with the prescribing of opioids for chronic, non-cancer pain. This course also reviews federal and state opioid prescribing guidelines and organizes them into a protocol that functions as a checklist. The checklist is broken into two distinct office visits where a physician may make a prescribing decision, the initial office visit and the follow-up. This course will help prescribers of opioids understand the medico-legal factors that exist and how to safely prescribe and manage chronic opioid therapy patients.
